Washi Fiber
In an era increasingly shaped by sustainable fashion, washi fiber is derived from renewable plant-based resources and is naturally biodegradable.
Its raw materials come from renewable botanical sources, while the production process is designed to preserve as much of the fiber’s inherent character as possible. At the end of its life, the fabric can biodegrade naturally, helping to reduce its environmental impact.
A contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Japanese washi-making techniques, washi fiber offers a material character distinct from conventional cotton and linen. Its unique porous, hollow structure makes it exceptionally light, airy and breathable, with a dry, crisp hand and a naturally cool-to-the-touch feel.
It brings together the crisp structure of linen and the refined drape of silk. Wrinkle-resistant, washable and resilient, it maintains its form without becoming limp over time. Its low-saturation, matte surface is defined by a clean, restrained texture and a refined, softly matte finish. Drawing on the inherent qualities of plant-based fibers, it also offers breathability, moisture management, antibacterial properties and odor control.
Alongside our pursuit of materiality and refined aesthetics, we favour lower-impact, circular and naturally derived material choices. Guided by the inherent qualities of nature, we seek a considered balance between tactile beauty and a more sustainable approach to dressing.
Incision Engraving
Originating in the goldsmiths’ workshops of Renaissance Florence, Incision is a centuries-old Italian hand-engraving tradition for precious metals, shaped by the city’s distinctive classical sensibility and enduring culture of craftsmanship. In contrast to the uniformity of industrial finishing, this traditional technique works entirely by hand, transforming the surface of precious metal through engraved texture and giving it a richly nuanced, dimensional character.
Working in the traditional Incision technique, artisans use gravers to cut finely spaced, thread-like lines into the metal surface. No machine engraving is used, allowing the natural variations in depth and relief created by the hand to remain visible. The pressure, spacing and curvature of each line, together with its minute irregularities, reveal subtle differences that cannot be mechanically replicated.
Incision — Seta
Using fine gravers, artisans cut parallel lines into the metal individually by hand. As light falls across these precise grooves, it is gently diffused across the surface, creating a silky, satin-like sheen—hence the name Seta, Italian for “silk”.
Refined over centuries, Incision is more than a decorative surface treatment; it carries forward Florence’s restrained classical aesthetic. We bring the artistic heritage of the Renaissance into contemporary jewellery, introducing warmth and the trace of the human hand to the inherent coolness of metal. Within a restrained form, shifts in texture, light and shadow create depth against clean silhouettes, allowing each piece to become a dialogue between inherited craftsmanship and contemporary design.
Garment Craftsmanship
Every LA CASA MADGE garment is made by hand. Rooted in the artisanal tradition of Italian ateliers, our approach extends from traditional tailoring workshops in Italy to our creative development centre in Shanghai. Across regions and disciplines, we continually study and refine exceptional garment-making techniques, paying close attention to stitching, cut, silhouette and construction, so that the heritage of Italian craftsmanship can continue to evolve within a contemporary design language.
Each piece is individually sewn and finished by skilled artisans. Rather than relying on standardized assembly-line production, we preserve the nuance, precision and tactile character that come from the human hand.
Drawing on specialist craft traditions from different parts of the world, we bring together Eastern and Western approaches to garment making. Every curve of the cut, every seam and every construction detail is considered and refined at an unhurried pace. The principles of classic Italian tailoring are interpreted alongside the comfort and sensibility of contemporary Eastern dressing, allowing accumulated craftsmanship to evolve in response to the way garments are worn today. In this balance of precision and ease, handwork acquires a warmth that develops through both making and wear.
Footwear & Leather Craftsmanship
For its footwear and leather goods, LA CASA MADGE selects premium Italian-sourced hides and leathers, worked by experienced artisans using techniques rooted in Italy’s long tradition of leather craftsmanship. The natural pores, grain and subtle variations of the material are preserved, while each piece passes through traditional artisanal processes including cutting, shaping, stitching and hand-finishing the edges. Throughout the making process, we favour time-honoured methods and considered handwork over the speed and uniformity of industrial mass production.
Drawing on skills passed from one generation of leather workers to the next, our artisans attend closely to the precision of every cut, the consistency of every stitch and the refinement of each finished edge. With use and time, the leather gradually becomes softer, more supple and more personal to its wearer. By bringing together the natural character of leather and traditional Italian leather working, each piece acquires a well-defined structure, a refined hand and an enduring vintage character, combining everyday durability with a sense of understated quality in both touch and use.
Photography
LA CASA MADGE is committed to photographing real products on real people in real settings, presenting each piece to our clients as authentically as possible.
For every season, the collection’s creative inspiration becomes the starting point for its visual world. Locations are chosen in response to that original concept, allowing the way each piece is photographed to remain closely connected to the intention behind its design.
The setting and the garments are conceived in dialogue with one another, revealing not only the essence of the collection, but also the aesthetic sensibility and emotional narrative we seek to express.
Material Sourcing
LA CASA MADGE takes a comprehensive approach to material sourcing across every product category—from metals and gemstones to leather and lower-impact yarns, and from principal fabrics to trims and components. From Italy to Shanghai and beyond, we search globally for materials whose quality, character and provenance resonate with the aesthetic language of the brand.
Our selection includes Italian-sourced leather and exceptional cashmere, fine silk woven in Hangzhou, precision-made Japanese trims and components, natural South Sea pearls and coloured gemstones from Sri Lanka, alongside carefully sourced materials from specialist regions around the world.
With a global perspective, we compare materials across origins, makers and production regions before selecting them to exacting standards. The aim is not simply to source exceptional materials, but to offer a distinctive tactile and material experience, allowing the inherent grain, lustre, softness and character of each material to remain present in the finished piece.
